Shyen Lee
Shyen Lee is a saxophonist from Taiwan who dedicates himself in pioneering toward development of pedagogy, promoting traditional and modern repertoire and various forms for saxophone performance. He currently serves as the professor of saxophone and woodwind department chair in the College of Music at Mahidol University, Thailand. He was also appointed to be Organizer and Artistic Director of the World Saxophone Congress XV, the 2nd International J-M Londeix International Competition and the Thailand International Composition for Saxophone in 2006.
Shyen Lee has appeared as solo recitalist in various concert halls including Lincoln Center, Paine Hall in Harvard University as well as in Montreal, Minneapolis, Ljubljana, Paris, Fermo (Italy), Kiev, Bangkok, Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei and other cities all over China and Taiwan. He was featured as the soloist of H. Tomasi’s Concerto under the baton of Jeannie Wagar with the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra in the season of 2006-2007.
Shyen Lee has premiered pieces by John Harbison, Larry Bell, Gunther Schuller and Bernard Rands. In addition to performing saxophone repertoire by Western composers, he has also commissioned pieces by leading Chinese composers including Lei Liang, Yiu-Kwong Chung, Tzyy-Sheng and Che-Yi Lee. To promote saxophone performance, he organizes saxophone summer camps in Thailand, Taiwan and China every year. Additionally, he has given masterclasses in many Asian and European countries.
Shyen Lee studied with Kenneth Radnofsky in New England Conservatory (BM, 1996) and Dr. John Sampen in Bowling Green University (MM, 1998).
