Psaiko Quartet
Coming from Spain and Argentina, the Psaiko Quartet started its career as a chamber music group at the Conservatori Superior de Música de les Illes Balears in 2015, under the tutelage of Rodrigo Vila and David Brutti.
Members of the quartet took masterclasses with prestigious interpretation professors such as François Guye, Jean-Marie Londeix, Timothy McAllister, and Pedro Bittencourt, among others. They also have worked with important composers as Volodymyr Runchak, Gabriel Erkoreka, Ramon Lazkano, Simone Movio, Antonio Lauzurika, Guillermo Schiavi and Aaron Siebert.
Their chamber music work unfolds in many places like Madrid, Barcelona, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires, Cali, Bangkok, La Havana, Netherlands, Ukrania, Sri Lanka and Oporto, among others. Important halls have received the group, such as Piotr Chaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine, Prince Mahidol Hall, Aksra Theatre King Power, Central Conservatory of Beijing, Lviv Conservatory, Fundación Juan March, sala Beethoven del Instituto de Bellas Artes de Cali and Sala Covarrubias del Teatro Nacional de Cuba.
In 2019, the Quartet won the First Prize in the “International Music Competition Opus 2019” and the Silver Medal in the “1st Vienna International Music Competition”, as well as First Prize in the “Thailand International Wind Symphony Competition” (TIWSC) in the 2018 edition. In 2017 they got First Prize in the 88th Permanent Competition “Juventudes Musicales de España” as well as the First Prize in “ArtJove” Chamber Music Competition.
They also begin to work on repertoire focusing on large orchestras as a project realized with the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Cuba under the direction of Lars Mlekusch.
Psaiko Quartet has been featured in different festivals such as Mallorca Saxophone Festival, III Festival Internacional de Saxofón Bellas Artes de Cali, Festival Jong Talent Schiermonnikoog, EurSax 2017, Daya – Yamaha International Artist Concerts, Série Tendências de la UFRJ, AIEnRUTa-Clásicos, Musical Cycle of Juventudes Musicales de España, Aveiro Sax Festival, XIII Encontro Galego do Saxofón, Cycle of strings and winds of (La Pampa, among others.
Within the different festivals in which they were part of, they gave masterclasses and conducted didactic concerts at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, International Meetings of La Pampa (Argentina), and Luis Gianneo Conservatory of Mar del Plata.
They also have been part of the jury of the semi-finals at the “2018 Hunan Wind Instrument Competition” in China, the “I Concurso Latinoamericano de Cuarteto de Saxofones”, and “ArtJove2019”.
The quartet’s repertoire comprises of conservative music to new works with innovative styles, including dedicated works from Antonio Lauzurika, Diego Graciosi and Aarón Siebert. They have also appeared in prominent media such as Cadena Ser Radio, IB3 television, Lutsk TV and international journals.
