Luo Tianze

Luo Tianze is an active Singaporean saxophonist and graduate of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) / Royal College of Music (RCM) Bachelor of Music (Honours) Programme.


Having a strong performance background as a soloist and chamber musician, Tianze has performed across the globe in countries such as China, Malaysia, Croatia, Taiwan and Thailand, while also clinching awards such as the King’s Peak International Music Competition 2021 (1st Place), RCM Musical Excellence Award (AY 2020/2021) and San San Music Merit Award (AY 2020/2021).


Tianze is enthusiastic in promoting new music by local composers and has performed works by Singaporean composers such as Emily Koh, Joey Yeo, Dorcas Koshy and Gu Wei on platforms such as the Singapore Saxophone Symposium, 1st Asian Saxophone Congress in Chiayi, Taiwan, and the 18th World Saxophone Congress in Zagreb, Croatia. In 2022, together with the New Meta Quartet, Tianze led a consortium for a piece by distinguished Singaporean composer, Dr. Zechariah Goh.


As the Music Director of Protégé Saxophone Ensemble, Tianze has led the ensemble to focus its projects towards promoting inclusivity in Singapore’s music community, by organising performance opportunities for saxophonists across all levels and ages in venues such as the Esplanade Recital Studio, Xi’an Conservatory and Chengdu University. Under his leadership, the ensemble was invited to the British International School in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Funote in Xi’an, China to conduct saxophone workshops.


Tianze is also a dedicated music educator and has been invited to teach masterclasses in Singapore, Malaysia and China. Since 2012, he has been employed as a saxophone tutor and band director by Singapore’s Ministry of Education (MOE) schools, and also teaches saxophone at Flute and Music Academy (FAMA). Currently, Tianze serves as a Teaching Assistant at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) where he works closely with the winds department.
